New Year, New Art

Hello and Happy New Year!

It's been a while since I wrote anything so I thought I would share what I created last night. I pulled out some oil pastels and a 6 by 6 art canvas and started to play. I got some ideas from looking at "art journals" on youtube.com I kept seeing these cool backgrounds that people were using in their journals and I kept thinking I could do that as wall art. Then more people would see the art... So after the Lion's Club meeting last night (it was a short meeting there were only 3 of us in attendance as it was around 15 degrees fahrenheit last night, no one wanted to get out and about. lol)

So I pulled out the oil pastels, and some gloves. I decided that I really didn't want to get my hands dirty because I knew it would be hard to explain at work today. lol... I started laying some blue and purple around the outside edges and smearing it with my hands and decided that I wanted something to help soften the look and found a make up sponge.. that was a better tool. Then I pulled out a stamp that I like and some Staz on black ink and stamped around the edges and a little in the middle. I then decided to free hand draw a heart with pink and purple. Blended that into the center and then used a product that is a resit over the heart. Once I had the resist in place I pulled out some white pearl acrylic paint and painted around the edges and in the center of the heart to help pull a little white back in to the canvas. I also used some acrylic gel medium to seal a layer of pastels so that it would set the colors. More rubbing of colors and a little more stamping.. One final layer of gel medium. Then pulled out a scrap of paper from a Readers Digest rubbed some pastels on it and glued it down in the corner. Stamped the Verse from Stampin up on a piece of scrap paper and used the pastels to make it match. Glued it down over the other scrap.. Just so happens that I had the prima flowers that were the same blue and purple so I used a couple of those and I have a very large bag of rhinestones so I used some of those as well... Went around the saying with a black marker. Then went around the edge of the canvas with a black Staz on ink pad. After it sat for a while I decided that it needed something else... That is when I used a white Galaxy marker around the heart and the paper scrap and said to myself It is finished. lol...

I brought the item to work today and several people said they liked it, a couple tried to take it home.. lol.. So I guess I did okay for my first time playing with oil pastels... I just might have to buy some more of those...

I hope you like it too. Love to have your feed back.. I hope to be sharing more over this next year. I'm working on some ideas for a few videos. If you have something you would like for me to share please let me know..

Have a blessed weekend - get busy and create art!
